Alloy/Special Alloy Pick Up Tools Overview

Alloy Steel Pick Up Tools are tools made from Tool Steels, Stainless Steels and Superalloys. We select Alloy Steels for tools that require high bond force, high temperature resistance and high resistance to wear.

Tool steels are high hardness, abrasion resistant steels which are achieved by the formation of carbides within the matrix. Due to these properties, we apply them in Die Attach tooling that requires a high rate of wear resistance.

Stainless steels (SS) are iron-base alloys containing 10.5% or more chromium (Cr). The addition of Cr gives resistance to heat and corrosion. The properties of SS are further modified by the addition of other alloying elements such as carbon, nitrogen, aluminium, nickel, and many others. The most popular SS grades used in our Pick Up Tools are of the SUS303, SUS316L, SUS400 series variety. As compared to other specialty alloys SS materials offer reasonable performance at a competitive price point.

Superalloys are heat resistance alloys of nickel, iron-nickel, and cobalt which can be used at high temperatures, often >70% of their melting temperatures. They can be used at temperatures exceeding 1050°C with excursions up to 1200°C. This temperature resistant characteristic makes it a suitable replacement candidate for Tungsten Carbide in Pick Up applications.

Alloy Steel Pick Up Tools are available in Round, Square, Rectangular, and Custom outer profiles. Depending on your application, die or device, we will suggest the Alloy Steel grade and the corresponding tip face design (Flat, Vacuum Relief, Groove, Multi-Hole, Side Clamp) that we think best suits your needs.
